About Us - History of Endo Pharmaceuticals
1920 A family-run pharmaceutical
business is established in Manhattan, NY, later named Endo.
1969 E.I. du Pont de Nemours and
Company (DuPont) acquires Endo.
1990 DuPont and Merck & Company
form an independent joint venture, known as The DuPont Merck Pharmaceuticals
Company (DuPont Merck).
1994 DuPont Merck reestablishes
Endo as a separate entity with the company. This entity is named
Endo Laboratories L.L.C. and serves as DuPont Merck's generic division.
1997 Three executives of DuPont
Merck acquire certain products from DuPont Merck in a management
buyout. With equity financing from Kelso & Company, a well-known,
private investment firm, Carol A. Ammon, Chairman, President &
CEO, and Mariann T. MacDonald, Executive Vice President, Operations,
along with another colleague, purchase all of Endo Laboratories
L.L.C.'s generic products along with 12 important brand products,
including Percocet® and Percodan®. The principals name their
new company Endo Pharmaceuticals Inc.
July 17, 2000 Endo Pharmaceuticals
acquires Algos Pharmaceutical Corporation, an innovative pharmaceutical
company with a patent-protected technology, through a merger. As
a result of this merger, Endo Pharmaceuticals begins to trade publicly
(NASDAQ: ENDP).
October 2001 Endo Pharmaceuticals
successfully completes a secondary offering for a total of 12,925,000
shares of its common stock. The net proceeds were used to pay existing
bank debt.
